Shadowlands, British motion picture about the life of British writer C. S. Lewis. Released in 1993, the film was based on a play by William Nicholson. Lewis (played by Anthony Hopkins) leads a quiet, orderly life, teaching at Oxford and writing children’s books. An American fan named Joy Gresham (Debra Winger) arranges to meet with him, and although the two have very different temperaments, they eventually fall in love. Tragically, Gresham falls ill with cancer shortly after they declare their love.
