Sava or Save, river, southeastern Europe, an important affluent of the Danube River. It rises in the Julian Alps, northwest Slovenia, and flows southeast, joining the Danube at Belgrade, Serbia. It is about 940 km (about 584 mi) long and is navigable for 583 km (362 mi).
