National Women’s Hall of Fame, Inc.

National Women’s Hall of Fame, Inc., museum and programs center in Seneca Falls, New York, “to honor in perpetuity those women, citizens of the United States of America, whose contributions to the arts, athletics, business, education, government, the humanities, philanthropy and science, have been of greatest value for the development of their country.” The hall was opened to the public in 1973 and is located near the site of the first Women's Rights Convention, convened in 1848 by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Coffin Mott. In addition to permanent displays of memorabilia and historical documents, the hall maintains a library and sponsors symposia and educational outreach programs, including activities for children and adults, and a traveling exhibition.

American women of the past and present are elected annually to the hall by the National Honors Committee, a panel of women and men who are authorities in various fields. Their choices are made from nominations submitted by the public and national organizations. Anyone may submit nominations.

The National Women's Hall of Fame is also a national membership organization dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments of American women. The organization sponsors programs and special events focusing on American women and their contributions to society. Another office is maintained in the Washington, D.C. area.
