Gulf of Aden

Gulf of Aden, western arm of the Arabian Sea, between Yemen, on the southern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, and Somalia and Djibouti, on the northeastern coast of Africa. It is 890 km (550 mi) long and is linked to the Red Sea by a strait, the Bab el Mandeb. The Gulf of Aden forms a part of the important commercial shipping route from the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea by the Suez Canal.
