National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
III. Organizational Structure

The NAACP operates under a president and chief executive officer who reports to a 17-member executive committee of the board of directors. In 2007 the NAACP had about 2,200 branches nationwide, college and youth councils, and a general membership of nearly 500,000 individuals. The NAACP has seven regional divisions. Within each jurisdiction are state conferences composed of local branches.

Funds for operating the association come from membership fees. Contributions to the NAACP Special Contribution Fund are tax-exempt; the NAACP operates national programs dealing with education, labor, economic development, housing, legal affairs, prisoner and ex-offender rehabilitation, bipartisan voter education, and youth leadership development.
