Frederick VII

Frederick VII (1808-63), king of Denmark (1848-63), son of Christian VIII. In 1849 Frederick promulgated the Unionist constitution abolishing the principle of absolute royal power. During most of his reign Denmark was involved in the Schleswig-Holstein disputes with Germany and Austria.
