Negros

Negros, island of the central Philippines, one of the Visayan Islands, between Panay and Cebu islands. The island is mountainous, rising to 2,459 m (8,068 ft) above sea level at Canlaon Peak. Sugarcane is the chief product. Negros comprises the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. Area, 12,700 sq km (4,900 sq mi); population (2000) 3,262,710.
