Mount Elgon

Mount Elgon, extinct volcano, on the Kenya-Uganda border, eastern Africa. It has an 8-km (5-mi) wide crater, from which rise several peaks. Wagagai is the highest point, with an elevation of 4,321 m (14,177 ft). Coffee and bananas are grown on the vast and fertile lower slopes; barren moorlands predominate above about 3050 m (about 10,000 ft).
