1999: Astronomy: Visual Proof of Extrasolar Planet Obtained
For the first time astronomers have detected visual proof of the existence of a planet outside our solar system, a team of scientists announced on November 16, 1999. The evidence, showing a planet passing in front of a star, is one of the biggest steps to date in the search for other solar systems.
