Ancient Egyptian Hippopotamus Figurine

Ancient Egyptian Hippopotamus Figurine
The hippopotamus was a symbol of rebirth in ancient Egypt, and ceramic figures of the hippopotamus were found in Egyptian tombs. They were painted bright blue, as if under water, and often decorated with images of water plants. This faience (glazed earthenware) hippopotamus dates from about 1650-1550 bc and is in the Louvre in Paris.
