Woodcut by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
German artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner created this woodcut portrait of his colleague Otto Mueller. Both were members of Die Brücke (“The Bridge”), the partnership of expressionist artists formed in Dresden, Germany, at the beginning of the 20th century. The artists were influenced by primitive art and by the paintings of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin.
