Handover of Hong Kong
On July 1, 1997, more than 150 years of British administration in Hong Kong came to an end, as the British returned the former crown colony to Chinese rule. The Britannia royal yacht, shown here, carried the last British governor of Hong Kong, Christopher Patten, and Prince Charles of Wales from Victoria Harbor back to the United Kingdom.
