Crab Nebula Structure
The Crab Nebula is the remnant of a supernova, an exploding star recorded by the Chinese in 1054. This image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope provides a detailed view of the complex cloud of gas and dust left by the explosion. At the heart of the Crab Nebula is a pulsar, a compact, rapidly rotating neutron star.
