Conversion of Saint Paul

Conversion of Saint Paul
Paul, who was born a Jew, became a Christian on the road from Jerusalem to Damascus after a vision of Christ. Italian painter Caravaggio dramatized the scene of Paul's miraculous conversion in this painting from 1601, now in the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome, Italy. Paul has fallen from his horse and lies on the ground with his eyes closed, blinded by the light of God, and his arms stretched upward as if to receive Christ.
