Derek Walcott
West Indian poet and playwright Derek Walcott won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1992. Most of his writings focus on the experiences of Caribbean people and vividly portray Caribbean culture. His best-known play is Dream on Monkey Mountain (1970), and his books of poetry, recognized for the inventiveness and musicality of their language, include The Star-Apple Kingdom (1979) and Omeros (1990).
