Charlemagne and Louis I
Louis I, also known as Louis the Pious, was the son and successor of Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. Louis was named king of Aquitaine at the age of three. This illustration is from the Grandes Chroniques de France, a 14th-century manuscript in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.
