| A Tuareg woman, clad in traditional dress, sits in front of a dwelling. The Tuareg are among the world's last nomadic peoples. A few still lead a pastoral life, herding goats, sheep, and camels in the bleakest of desert landscapes. Most, however, have settled in oasis communities in Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Libya, and Algeria, or in urban areas in the Sahelian and coastal countries of West Africa. They are an Islamic people and speak Tamarshak, a Berber language. | ||||||
