Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II had several large statues of himself placed in the temple at Luxor, Egypt. Luxor occupies part of the site Thebes, the ancient capital of Egypt. The pharaoh was considered to be a living god, and the reign of Ramses II was a high point in ancient Egyptian history.
