An Ostrich Farm in South Africa

Ostrich farming, or the breeding of domesticated birds for economic profit, was introduced in South Africa in the late 19th century to supply a European demand for ostrich plumes. When the plumes ceased to be fashionable, farming declined. In recent years, however, the use of ostrich hide as an exotic leather has renewed an interest in ostrich farms. Here, male and female ostriches are corralled in a farm in South Africa.
