Château de Chambord

The Château de Chambord is the largest château in the Loire Valley of France. Francis I began building the château in 1519 as a hunting lodge, using plans suggested by Leonardo da Vinci. One of the château’s most famous features is its rooftop terrace, which has a collection of elongated chimneys, bell-shaped domes, miniature spires, and carved gables. Formal gardens, called parterres, and extensive forested parks surround Chambord.
