Ancient Peruvian Textile

Ancient Peruvian Textile
This gown was worn by a noble of the Chimú kingdom, which flourished in Peru from the 12th to the 15th century. Like many ancient Peruvian textiles, it features a pattern of stylized animals, in this case, birds. The dyes were made from vegetable or mineral substances and the colors—brown, scarlet, and yellow ochre—are typical of Chimú textiles.
