Salk Institute

Salk Institute
The Salk Institute for Biological Studies was named after the American physician who developed the first polio vaccine, Jonas E. Salk. Salk also served as the institute’s first president. Located in La Jolla, California, the complex was designed by American architect Louis I. Kahn and completed in 1965. It consists of two buildings that house laboratories and offices and face one another across an open plaza overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
