Breuer’s Whitney Museum
The Whitney Museum of American Art, located in New York City, was designed by Hungarian American architect Marcel Breuer and completed in 1966. The building’s three upper floors project outward over a sculpture court located below ground level. The projecting stories maximize interior gallery space. Along with seven windows of irregular shape, size, and placement, they reduce the severity of the granite facade and break up the building’s mass.
