Amazon Basin Culture Area
The Amazon Basin culture area is defined by the Amazon River and its tributaries, which flow through a huge area of tropical rain forest. Major cultures present in this area at the time of European contact included the Tapajós, Omagua, and Tupinambá. Today, the Yanomami and Shuar are well-known native groups of the Amazon.
