The Six-Day War
During the Six-Day War of 1967, Israeli troops captured and occupied the Arab-populated West Bank, Gaza Strip, Sinai Peninsula, and Golan Heights. Here, Israeli troops patrol East Jerusalem. The loss of Jerusalem, the third holiest city in Islam, was especially devastating to Muslims, and the war came to symbolize a sense of failure in the Islamic world.
