Topography of Venus

This map shows the topography of the planet Venus. Red and yellow indicate high elevations while blue represents lower basins. The map was created using radar measurements by an orbiting space probe. The time radar pulses take to bounce off the surface of Venus and return to the probe reveal elevation because higher elevations return the signal sooner. Slide the bar at the bottom of the image to zoom in on the map, and click and drag on the zoomed map to move around. Use the locator map to quickly jump from one area to another.
