Kerri Strug Vaults to Gold
American gymnast Kerri Strug grimaces in pain as she lands after a vault at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, in July 1996. Despite injuring her ankle on a previous vault, Strug courageously made another attempt, landing perfectly before collapsing in pain. Strug’s memorable vault was part of the first gold medal for the United States in women’s team gymnastics.
