Salt Plains in Wood Buffalo National Park
Wood Buffalo National Park in north central Canada has one of the largest free-roaming herds of bison in the world and provides nesting habitat for whooping cranes. One of the world’s largest inland deltas is located in the park. The park’s unique salt plains, gypsum karst landforms, and expansive boreal wilderness were additional factors that contributed to its selection as a World Heritage Site in 1983.
