Contemporary Banghāzī
Banghāzī, the second largest city in Libya, is a port on the Gulf of Sidra. It has a modern appearance despite its long history. The ancient Greeks called it Hesperides. In the 1500s Ottoman rulers named Banghazi for a religious leader, Ibn Ghazi.
