| Table Mountain is an imposing backdrop for Cape Town's Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. The distinctive flat-topped mountain is known for its microclimate, which supports dozens of unique plant species. A low covering of clouds cascading over the stark, flat summit, which rises 1,086 meters (3,563 feet), is an indication of the Cape Doctor—Cape Town's notoriously strong southeasterly wind. The waterfront in the foreground is a redevelopment of the old harbor, which was built on reclaimed land. Much of Cape Town nightlife revolves around this cosmopolitan concentration of upscale shopping centers, nightclubs, arts and crafts markets, theaters, and museums. |
