| The Gyeongbok (Shining Happiness) Palace in Seoul was first built in 1395 as the royal residence of the Chosŏn (Joseon) dynasty. Destroyed during the Japanese invasion of 1592, the palace was finally rebuilt in 1867. Today, Korean and international visitors flock to the palace grounds to see the exquisite architecture and gardens. The National Museum of Korea and the National Folklore Museum are located nearby. |
