Lake Chŏn-ji fills the crater atop Mount Paektu, a volcano in the mountain ranges on North Korea’s northern border with China. Mount Paektu is North Korea’s highest point, rising to 2,744 m (9,003 ft). It was made a biosphere reserve in 1989.
