| Guyana’s population has been shrinking, primarily because of emigration. Many Guyanese have left their homes, seeking better job opportunities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Caribbean countries. Native Americans, like this young woman, make up only about 4 percent of Guyana’s population. The remainder of the people are mainly East Indians or blacks of African ancestry. | ||||||
