Primary school, such as this one in Hafnarfjörður, and lower secondary school provide a high-quality education that is free and compulsory for all Icelandic children. Students who continue past compulsory schooling have a number of different options, including teacher-training and technical schools, a nautical school, and colleges of agriculture and music. Adult illiteracy is virtually nonexistent in Iceland.
