| The reputation of Ushuaia comes from its location: It is the southernmost city on the planet, the principal city of the island of Tierra del Fuego at the southern extreme of South America. It is also the hub of the Tierra del Fuego administrative division, on the eastern part of the island, which belongs to Argentina; the western region is a dependency of Chile. Numerous fishing vessels, cruise ships, and expeditions stop in Ushuaia by way of the Beagle Channel before setting off for Antarctica. |
