Lord Howe Island's Indigenous Treasures
The Norfolk Island pine is one of many plant species found on Lord Howe Island, northeast of Sydney. The small volcanic island is known for its luxuriant forests, temperate climate, and plentiful year-round rainfall. It sustains 200 indigenous vascular plants and 70 animal species that are found nowhere else, and off its western shore is the world's most southerly coral reef.
