William Faulkner
Twentieth-century American novelist William Faulkner wrote novels that explored the tensions between the old and the new in the American South. Faulkner experimented with demanding literary techniques, including the technique known as stream of consciousness, which helped evoke the complexity of life. In 1949 he received the Nobel Prize for literature.
