Robert M. La Follette, Sr.
Robert M. La Follette, Sr., served as governor of Wisconsin and as a member of the United States Senate and House of Representatives. A Progressive Republican who pursued major political reforms, La Follette often clashed with party leaders. He broke away from the Republican Party in 1924 and became a third-party presidential candidate.
