Gaza Airport Opening

Gaza Airport Opening
The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) operates the Yasir Arafat International Airport, which opened as the Gaza International Airport in November 1998. Previously, passengers and cargo going to and from the Gaza Strip had to pass through either Israel or Egypt. Israel maintained considerable control over the airport’s security and destroyed its runway following a Palestinian uprising in 2000. The airport’s future remained to be determined after all Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip were evacuated in August 2005.
