| Jesuit missionaries first arrived in China during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Italian Jesuit Matteo Ricci (1552-1610), left, became the most eminent Jesuit in China. Ricci studied Chinese and wrote and translated in the language. He also preached and taught science to his hosts. | ||||||
