Black Panthers on the steps of the Alameda Courthouse protest the arrest of Huey Newton, a founder of the Black Panther Party (BPP). This protest was part of a movement to “Free Huey,” who was charged with murdering a police officer. The party was the target of police harassment during the 1960s, and several members were jailed at various times.
