Evacuation of Saigon

Evacuation of Saigon
On April 29, 1975, hundreds of Americans and South Vietnamese were evacuated from Saigon (now known as Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam, by helicopter. The following day the city was captured by the North Vietnamese, signaling the end of the Vietnam War. Earlier in the month the Congress of the United States had provided $300 million for the evacuation.
