Turbines and Hydroelectric Power
Generators at the Bonneville Dam in Oregon produce electricity as water flows through large turbines and drives the axles of the generators. Water under high pressure behind the dam is released into a channel, where it strikes the wide blades of the turbines, causing them to spin rapidly. This mechanical energy is transferred to the generator by a drive shaft.
