The Kung San, otherwise known as Bushmen, have lived in the isolated Kalahari Desert of northeastern Namibia and northwestern Botswana for centuries. Traditional instruments associated with this group are those that can be constructed from materials found in the natural environment as well as those made for practical use such as the one-string hunting bow, usually played by young boys. More recently, metal wire has replaced the gut string. This example of the hunting bow has a gut string.
