Eskimo Drum Song of Alaska

Eskimos have inhabited villages on Saint Lawrence Island, off the coast of Alaska, for centuries. The people in this region often gather in local homes to sing and dance. The singing is accompanied by tambourinelike drums, played by striking the beater on the back edge of the frame, rarely on the skin itself. Many of the songs are hunting songs, game songs, and songs about daily experiences.
