One of the greatest Renaissance composers, Italian-born Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina composed primarily masses and motets (songs composed for two or more voices). His most famous work is the mass Missa Papae Marcelli. It exhibits the refined style that set the model for Renaissance multivoiced compositions to come.
