The totem is an integral part of the culture of the Kwakiutl people of the Pacific Northwest. Totems are symbols of social standing and of the achievements of nobility. This “Wolf Cycle” is sung by chief totem pole carver Mungo Martin. It is believed that the spirit of the wolf dwells within the singer of this song.
