Berlin Airlift

Berlin Airlift
In 1948, following Soviet bans on all water, rail, and highway traffic between Berlin and West Germany, the British and U.S. occupation authorities organized a system of air transport, known as the Berlin airlift, to supply the Western-occupied sectors of the city. Planes landed up to every 45 seconds with relief supplies for the 2 million occupants of those sectors. The Soviets lifted their blockade in 1949.
