Conquest of Damietta

Conquest of Damietta
From 1096 to 1291 many western European Christian leaders conducted Crusades or military expeditions to the Middle East for religious purposes. These Crusades brought Europeans in touch with different cultures and helped to revive trade. This page of an illuminated manuscript depicts the conquest of Damietta, Egypt, in 1249 by King Louis IX of France and his army.
