Pyramid of the Sun, Teotihuacán
The Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacán, Mexico, was one of the largest structures built in the Americas before the arrival of Europeans. The pyramid and other religious monuments lined the central avenue of Teotihuacán, the Avenue of the Dead. Teotihuacán was not only a sacred site but the center of a powerful state and one of the largest cities in the world in about ad 500.
